In his article, " The Death of Benny Paret”, Norman Mailer sorrowfully retells his first-hand account from the tragic death of the boxer, Benny Paret and the horror that he witnessed that day. Using figurative vocabulary such as similes, and diction to enhance the readers' feelings, the author conveys to the target audience a sense of surprise, loss, and regret. Mailer retells his heartrending experience of the loss of life of Paret in order to in an attempt to convey to his visitors of the inhumanity and the aristocracy of death of a championship boxer. Interacting to his audience, Grettle Mailer is usually using a sympathetic and low tone to note the brave and pleased Paret and exactly how his living could be extinguished so easily and all of a sudden. To begin, the author's intensive use of similes regarding equally Paret and Griffin produces a well-illustrated picture of what he provides witnessed.
